VFW auxiliary to attend Statue of Liberty event

The Yingling-Ridgely Post and Ladies Auxiliary 7472 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Ellicott City and Jr. Girls Unit will attend the 108th birthday celebration of the Statue of Liberty at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28 on Liberty Island in New York.

They will be accompanied by representatives from most of the 98 Maryland auxiliary groups and the state president of the Maryland Auxiliary, Marie Bunting of Silver Spring.

This will be the 58th year that the ladies auxiliary has observed the Statue of Liberty's birthday with a patriotic ceremony and gift.

During the ceremony, National Ladies Auxiliary President Helen NTC Harsh of New Holland, Pa., will present a globe for the statue's library inside the base of the statue.

* Ellicott City: 5400 block of Columbia Road: Someone pried open a door of a home and ransacked the bedrooms Tuesday between 5:30 p.m. and 10:10 p.m. Among the items stolen were jewelry, a phone, Oriental pictures and keys, police said.
