New from La Piccola Roma

TABLE TALK

October 21, 1994|By Elizabeth Large

Good news for fans of La Piccola Roma, one of Annapolis' premier restaurants -- and good news for anyone who loves good food. La Piccola's owner/chef Gino Giolitti is opening a place with chef Anthony Capuano from O'Leary's seafood restaurant.

The Scirocco Mediterranean Grill, 2552 Riva Road, Annapolis, (410) 224-5648 should be serving its Mediterranean fare by the second week in November: lots of baked foods, grills over wood fire, seasonal produce and fish, olive oils and juices rather than heavy sauces and butter. Breads will be baked in-house.

Mr. Giolitti says the main difference between his two restaurants is that Scirocco will be less formal and "not just Italian."

* Angelo Sanz, formerly chef at Tio Pepe, is now cooking for the new Diamond Cafe in Columbia. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the cafe features Spanish, Italian and home-style American food. It's located in Gateway Plaza, 7185 Columbia Gateway Drive, (410) 290-0700.

* Vanguard Cafe, at 405 N. Charles St., has stopped serving lunch on weekdays. It's still open evenings, and for lunch on Saturdays and brunch on Sundays.
