Florida Marlins -- Claimed P Brian Barnes off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers and placed him on the 40-man roster.

Houston Astros -- Will not offer arbitration to OF Kevin Bass and OF Milt Thompson, making them free agents. Outrighted OF Ken Ramos to Triple-A Tucson.

Kansas City Royals -- Named Mike Jirschele manager, Mike Alvarez returns as pitching coach and Tom Poquette returns as hitting coach at Triple-A Omaha. Named Ron Johnson manager, U. L. Washington coach and Gary Lance pitching coach at Double-A Wichita. Named John Mizerock manager and Tom Burgmeier and Sixto Lezcano coaches at Single-A Wilmington. Named Brian Poldberg manager and Mike Mason and Rafael Santana coaches Single-A Springfield. Named Al Pedrique manager, Theo Shaw pitching coach and Cliff Pastornicky batting coach at Single-A Spokane. Bob Herold will return as manager and Jose Tartabull and Rick Keeton will return as coaches at Rookie League Fort Myers.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Retained Rick Dempsey, manager, of Triple-A Albuquerque; Jon Debus, manager, of Single-A Vero Beach and Joe Vavra, manager, of Single-A Yakima. Named John Shelby manager of Double-A San Antonio; Ron Roenicke manager of Single-A San Bernardino and John Shoemaker manager of Rookie League Great Falls.

New York Yankees -- Will not offer arbitration to IF Mike Gallego, making him a free agent.

San Diego Padres -- Named Jerry Royster manager and Dean Treanor pitching coach at Double-A Memphis.

San Francisco Giants -- Offered salary arbitration to OF Darryl Strawberry.

Texas Rangers -- Named Johnny Oates manager.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Will not offer arbitration to P Danny Cox, P Dave Stewart and SS Dick Schofield, making them free agents.
