This weekend, the River Hill Garden Center will hold its third XTC annual Harvest Festival. And it will be bigger and better than ever, according to festival organizer Sally Robinson.

"There will be lots of entertainment for both adults and children," Ms. Robinson says. "We'll have live music, magic shows, hayrides, a petting zoo, a cider press, scarecrow making, pumpkin painting and Straw Mountain, which the kids will love."

Girl Scout Troop No. 1200 will help make scarecrows from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

There is a $10 fee to participate, but you'll get to take home an authentic, fully stuffed Halloween scarecrow.

Cadet Troop No. 459 will also be there teaching the art of pumpkin painting.

Refreshments, including hot cider, will be sold by Boy Scout Troop No. 757 and Girl Scout Cadet Troop No. 10.

For additional information about the Harvest Festival, call the River Hill Garden Center at 531-3303.

The Bagel Bin, David's Natural Market, Produce Galore and Today's Catch will provide tasty tidbits to sample, and activities for children will be offered.

Those attending are asked to bring a donation of a canned good to place in a donation box. There also will be a raffle.
