School board is reviewing redistricting

October 19, 1994

The Anne Arundel County school board is considering changing the way it handles school redistricting, just a few weeks before new attendance boundaries are to be adopted.

The review began after the State Board of Education last year halted the transfer of eighth-graders from George Fox Middle School to Northeast Senior High because of a procedural mistake. The state board said that because the transfer idea came out of a public hearing, the county board should have held another public hearing on the proposal.

The county board is to meet at 7:30 tonight at the school system's headquarters on Riva Road in Annapolis.

The board also intends to review grading systems in elementary and middle schools and to examine plans for renovating and reopening Adams Park Elementary School. The school now houses the county's Learning Center, for students with behavioral problems. School officials have not found a new site for the center.
