Organist to give concert to benefit fund for needy

You are invited to a concert by organist James Harp at 3 p.m. Oct. 30 at St. John Lutheran Church.

Featured will be variations on "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" and "For All the Saints," with congregational singing and vocal solos.

Tickets are not required, but an offering will be collected. Proceeds will benefit the Emergency Assistance Fund for the Needy sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance in Brooklyn-Curtis Bay. A reception in the social hall will follow the concert.

Mr. Harp is a former music director at St. John Lutheran Church who now is associated with St. Mark Lutheran Church on St. Paul Street.

A countywide Chapter One meeting will take place from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Anne Arundel Community College.

Dr. Ronald Redmond of Loyola College and expert Anne Weaver will discuss how to motivate children. At the workshop, parents will learn strategies and techniques to help their children.

North County High School news: The band took third place at the Columbus Day Parade in Baltimore's Inner Harbor Oct. 9.

* The Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the band room. Anyone interested in becoming involved with the band or bandfront is invited to attend.

* Be sure to order Joe Corbi Pizzas and homemade cold-cut subs from band members. All orders and money must be returned to school Oct. 24.

* Tables still are available for the flea market sponsored by the PTA on Nov. 5. Tables are $15 each and can be reserved by calling Vicki at 761-3935.

Brooklyn Park Elementary School kindergarten classes will be visiting the fire station on Ritchie Highway today, tomorrow and Wednesday.

The youngsters will learn about fire safety and how the firefighters do their jobs.

There will be only one church service, at 10:30 a.m., as Brooklyn Height United Methodist Church celebrates Homecoming Sunday this weekend.

All former pastors and their families have been invited to attend. A covered dish meal and fellowship will take place after the service.

The Olde Brooklyn Park Improvement Association will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Brooklyn Park Elementary School, 200 14th Ave.

Dues are $4 per family for 1995 and can be paid at the meeting.

Halloween is fast approaching and who can resist a spooky story to get in the mood?

Brooklyn Park Library, 1 E. 11th Ave., will have a Halloween storytime at 7 p.m. Oct. 25.

Children ages 2 to 6 are invited to wear their Halloween costumes and listen to scary stories and poems. Information: 222-6260.

Arundel Improvement Association members are reminded that the next meeting will be at 8 p.m. Thursday. New neighbors are invited to join the association.

All county seniors, age 55 and older, are invited to bring a brown bag lunch and join. Bingo will be played after the meeting.
