* Gaines McHale, one of the mid-Atlantic area's largest antique businesses, changed its name to Gaines McHale Antiques & Home. The company will continue to be headquartered in the Spring Gardens/ Sharp-Leadenhall section of South Baltimore.

* St. Joseph Hospital, a Baltimore-area health care institution for 130 years, changed its name to St. Joseph Medical Center to better reflect the diversity of care and services it now offers.

On the board

* Kennedy Krieger Institute elected H. Grant Hathaway to chairman and Carla Hayden, B. Larry Jenkins, James R. Hyde and Harriet Legum to seats on the board of directors.

* Columbus Center Development Inc. named Carl B. Feldbaum and Alonzo G. Decker to its board.

* Baltimore City Chamber of Commerce selected William A. Wycoff as chairman of its board of directors.

New accounts & contracts

* Eisner & Associates has been retained by the Helix Health System to provide public relations and marketing services. The Baltimore agency was also selected by Scientific American as agency of record to develop a comprehensive image and advertising campaign for the 150-year-old magazine.

* Parks, Ottenheimer & Subotnik has been selected to conduct design and direct-mail projects by ATI Communications, SWA Associates and Fitzgerald Auto Leasing.

* Susan Perrin Art Consulting was retained by Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll to coordinate art placement in its Baltimore offices.


* Linda Kaestner was named woman of the year by the Towsontowne Business & Professional Women's Club.
