Medd's first goal lifts Towson over Marist, 1-0

...TC Freshman Peter Medd scored his first collegiate goal with 25 seconds left in the first half to lead host Towson State to a 1-0 victory over Marist (2-11) in men's soccer yesterday.

Medd, the Maryland State Player of the Year last year, scored off passes from Pat Coyle and Chris Smith (Howard) to lift the Tigers (7-7).

* Mount St. Mary's 1, Fairleigh Dickinson 0: Mount St. Mary's (8-3-2, 4-1-1) clinched its first berth in the Northeast Conference tournament since 1990 with a win over visiting Fairleigh Dickinson. Matt Gannon scored the goal 37:13 into the game.

* Johns Hopkins 2, Haverford 0: Senior goalkeeper Craig Greenwald made six saves and recorded his fifth shutout of the season as Johns Hopkins (9-2-3) defeated host Haverford.

* Western Maryland 2, Washington College 2: Western Maryland (3-10-2, 0-6-1) broke a nine-game losing streak with a tie against Washington College (7-4-2, 2-3-2) in a Centennial Conference game.

Women

Maryland 3, UMBC 2: Senior forward Randi Goldblatt scored twice, including the game-winner, as host Maryland (6-6-2) edged UMBC (9-4-0).

* Johns Hopkins 1, Bryn Mawr 0: Marijayne Bushey scored in the second half as visiting Johns Hopkins (4-4-2) edged Bryn Mawr.
