IMELDA HERZINGER of Arnold

Volunteer work: Mrs. Herzinger is chairwoman for Holiday Sharing, a program coordinated by the Medical Society Alliance of Anne Arundel County.

About the volunteer: Mrs. Herzinger has been a resident of Arnold since 1976. Her husband, Raymond, is a urologist at Anne Arundel Medical Center and North Arundel Hospital.

Mrs. Herzinger, who has led Holiday Sharing since 1982, was recently presented with a proclamation by County Executive Robert R. Neall, lauding her dedication.

Nanci LeRoy, the public relations chairwoman for the Medical Society Alliance, says Mrs. Herzinger is "one of our strongest volunteers."

Volunteer's comments: "Holiday Sharing is a joint effort between the Department of Social Services and the Medical Society Alliance.

"The program basically matches donors throughout Anne Arundel County with families who are clients of social services. -- We work with AFDC [Aid to Families with Dependent Children].

"Besides the matching of families with donors . . . we also work with Annapolis Lions and Farmers National Bank and their toy program.

"One of the goals of our organization is to improve the quality of life in the community."

"I really enjoy doing this. There's tremendous satisfaction in it. It's [Holiday Sharing] grown and developed so over the years and that's made it exciting."

About the organization: The Medical Alliance Society, founded in 1980, consists of 130 physicians' spouses. In addition to Holiday Sharing, it supports several community-based projects.

The society sponsors activities and programs at the Charles Ballard Senior Health Center and raises money for hospice programs and scholarships. In recent years, it has raised money for the construction of a playground and the purchase of a van for Sarah's House, a shelter for homeless families.

About the program: To sponsor a family or to make a donation to Holiday Sharing, contact 974-8711.

Anyone wishing to be considered for receiving assistance from the program must be a county AFDC client.
