Key West's Fantasy Fest, for a legendary Halloween

Wizards. Greek gods. Mad Hatters. Paul Bunyan? Anything and everything legendary will be on parade this Halloween at Fantasy Fest in Key West.

From Oct. 21-30, masqueraders from all over will converge on the historic streets of the tiny Florida island. The theme, "Mystical Myths and Twisted Tales," says it all about the 16th annual Mardi Gras-style masked festival.

International costume competitions, parades laden with dragons, elaborate floats, Caribbean food and a queen and king coronation ball are some of the highlights of the 10-day event. There's also a pet masquerade and bike- and boat-decorating contests. And haunted houses answer the call for traditional Halloween fun.

Dave Brubeck, Gerry Mulligan and Ornette Coleman are some of the performers highlighting this year's San Francisco Jazz Festival. The festival runs Oct. 27 to Nov. 13 in the city by the bay. There's even a Jazz Festival Store at 4 Embarcadero Center purchase tickets, T-shirts and other memorabilia. For tickets, call (415) 776-1999; for information, (415) 788-7353.
