Loyola prevails in two OTs, 2-0

Bill Wnek and Bill Heiser scored overtime goals and Zach Thornton set the school's consecutive shutout record in leading Loyola College (12-2-2) past Philadelphia Textile (4-4-3) in double overtime, 2-0, in a men's soccer game yesterday.

Thornton made three saves as he recorded his ninth straight shutout. He broke the old record set by Dave Barreuta in 1987.

It was the fourth consecutive win for Loyola, which extended its home unbeaten streak to 33 games.

* Villa Julie 3, Capitol College 1 (2 OTs): Mike Hemelt (Curley) and Jeff Vogel (Gibbons) each scored a goal in the second overtime to lift host Villa Julie (3-5-1).

* Dundalk CC 3, Alleghany CC 0: Matt Goldsmith (Patapsco) had two goals to lead Dundalk Community College (4-11) past visiting Alleghany Community College (8-3).

Women's soccer

* Loyola 3, Manhattan 0: Stephanie Roberts (Severna Park) and Krystin Procella (John Carroll) scored first-half goals to lead visiting Loyola (6-9, 5-1).

* Goucher 2, Kutztown (Pa.) 1: Sarah Weaver and April Simonson scored first-half goals to lead host Goucher College (11-1-1).

* Dundalk CC 6, Montgomery-Rockville 2: Joanna Nowak (Dundalk) scored two goals and host Dundalk Community College (3-6) won in double overtime.
