Alexander To Sit Out

October 13, 1994|By Gary Lambrecht

Senior guard Scooter Alexander, who could become the top scorer in Towson State basketball history, will wait another year to pursue that feat. The school announced yesterday that

Alexander will sit out the 1994-95 season for academic reasons.

"The decision to redshirt him was made after much discussion between his family and our coaching staff," Towson State coach Terry Truax said. "This affords Scooter the opportunity to get ahead in his academic work."

Alexander, a two-time All-Big South Conference first-team selection, led the Tigers last year with a 17.4-point average. In three seasons, he has 1,469 points.

Sitting out this season also will give Alexander the chance to play in an NCAA tournament. This is Towson State's last year in the Big South, which lost its automatic qualifier for the 1995 national tournament. The Tigers will move to the North Atlantic Conference next year.
