Cheaney, Muresan star in scrimmage for Bullets

SHEPHERDSTOWN W. VA. — SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va -- Washington Bullets swingman Calbert Cheaney scored 24 points and 7-foot-7 center Gheorghe Muresan added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the white team in a 111-86 win over the blue team in a scrimmage last night at Shepherd College.

Cheaney, who started at small forward and also played guard, was 11-for-16 from the field. Scott Skiles had 15 points and nine assists, Rex Chapman had a game-high 11 assists and Larry Stewart had 18 points for the white team.

Doug Overton (18 points), Tom Gugliotta and Anthony Tucker (16 points each) were the only players in double figures for the blue team.

Forward Kenny Walker sat out the scrimmage and is awaiting more tests on his sore knee. Forwards Mitchell Butler (sore knee) and Don MacLean (sore thigh) were limited to a half each.

MacLean scored 17 points for the white team, and Butler 9 for the blue team.

The Bullets will break camp at Shepherd College after tonight's session, moving to Bowie tomorrow. The team will then travel to Akron, Ohio to face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first pre-season game on Thursday.
