Candidates to speak at 2 political forums

The League of Women Voters of Carroll County will have two general election candidate forums to give the public an opportunity to meet candidates and hear their positions on various issues.

Both forums will be held at Westminster West Middle School, 60 Monroe St.

The schedule for Wednesday is:

* 7 p.m., sheriff.

* 7:25 p.m., Congressional District 6.

* 8:15 p.m., House of Delegates, Districts 4B and 5.

Also, candidates for the school board and clerk of the Circuit Court will introduce themselves.

The schedule for Oct. 19 is:

* 7 p.m., state's attorney.

* 7:25 p.m., state Senate, Districts 4B and 5.

* 8:20 p.m., county commissioners.

Also, candidates for judge of the Orphan's Court and register of wills candidates will introduce themselves.

The forums are free. Co-sponsors are The Sun for Carroll County, Baltimore Gas and Electric Co.-Carroll County GAP Committee, Prestige Cablevision Channel 3 and WTTR radio.

Tribute dinner planned for retiring delegate

Republican gubernatorial candidate Ellen Sauerbrey is scheduled to speak at an Oct. 28 tribute dinner for retiring Carroll County Del. Richard C. Matthews, a District 5 Republican.

Mr. Matthews announced this summer that he would retire after 27 years in the House of Delegates. He was chairman of the Carroll delegation.

The dinner is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Hampstead Fire Hall. Tickets are $15 per person. Proceeds will help finance Republican campaigns leading up to the Nov. 8 election.
