McGuire's hat trick lifts Hopkins field hockey, 3-0

Mary Anne McGuire scored three goals to lead host Johns Hopkins (4-6) past Franklin & Marshall (1-8-2), 3-0, in a field hockey game yesterday.

* Salisbury State 3, York 0: Laura Getty scored two goals and Amy Masters (South Carroll) had one, leading visiting Salisbury State (8-4, 3-1) past York College (5-5, 2-2) in a Capital Athletic Conference game. Karen McCammon had six saves for Salisbury State.

Cross country

* Mount St. Mary's: Sophomore Rebecca Wassner finished first and led the Mount St. Mary's women to second place in a quad meet at 20th-ranked William & Mary.

Junior Bernard Kitur was second overall, as the Mount men finished behind William & Mary and Virginia Tech.

The Mount women, with 42 points, edged Virginia Tech (44) and finished behind William & Mary (36). Robin Kloster, Stella Cinoa and Heather Moul turned in their best performances of the year, placing eighth, ninth and 11th, respectively. Amy Debor was 13th.

Freshmen Shawn McElhaugh, Aaron Price and Greg Smith placed 22nd, 26th and 31st, respectively, for the men.

* Navy: Purdue's women won their Land, Sea & Air Invitational with 25 points. Navy was second with 33.

Navy (6-1) was led by sophomore Kim McGreevy, who won the race in 18 minutes, 12 seconds. Sophomore Kerri Gray was second (18:16), and Nancy Olsen was eighth (18:56).
