Sierra Club endorses Mundy for state Senate

Jim Mundy, the Democratic nominee for the state Senate in District 14, has been endorsed by the Sierra Club.

Mr. Mundy also has been endorsed by the Maryland State Fraternal Order of Police, the Maryland State Teachers Association, the Maryland Women's Political Caucus and the Howard County Police Officers Association.

Candidates to debate their plans for county

A debate is scheduled at 1 p.m. Tuesday before the American Association of Retired Persons, 559 at the Florence Bain Senior Center.

The topic is "What Are Your Plans for Howard County?" and will be between incumbent County Executive Charles Ecker, a Republican, and Susan Gray; incumbent Republican County Councilman Charles Feaga and John Taylor; and Republican Del. Martin Madden and Democratic Del. Virginia Thomas, vying for the District 13 state Senate seat.

Each debate will last 10 minutes. During a refreshment break, audience members may ask questions of the candidates.

School board hopefuls are due at ACLU forum

The American Civil Liberties Union of Howard County is sponsoring a public forum for Board of Education candidates at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Central Library in Columbia.

Seating capacity is 50, so attendees should arrive early.

Earlier in the year, an ACLU questionnaire was sent to the then-five candidates. Responses were received from two candidates, Karen Campbell and Jamie Kendrick. A third candidate, Delory Cornick, suggested the questions should be answered in an open forum.

Glendening, Sauerbrey to discuss disabilities

More than 40 disability groups, including the Howard County Commission on Disability Issues, will co-sponsor Maryland's second Gubernatorial Candidates Forum on Disability Issues at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor, 300 Light St., Baltimore.

The two gubernatorial candidates, Parris Glendening and Ellen Sauerbrey, will participate.

Sign-language interpretation will be provided. People with disabilities and their advocates are urged to attend at no cost. For transportation, call 730-7433.

Executive candidate to hold town meeting

Susan Gray, candidate for Howard County executive, will hold a town meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Wilde Lake Interfaith Center, 10431 Twin Rivers Road, Columbia.

The forum will allow residents to voice their concerns.
