COLLEGE PARK -- Junior midfielder Matt Gannon scored two goals to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 2-1 victory over No. 15 Maryland (7-3) in men's soccer yesterday.

It was the Mountaineers' first win over Maryland and their first victory over a ranked opponent.

"I am very proud of the way the guys played their hearts out, and this win is the direct result," said first-year coach Mark Mettrick, whose Mountaineers are 6-3-1. "The defense played an outstanding game."

MA The Terps, who had won four straight, outshot the Mount 21-5.
