Montgomery Co. woman raped near Old Mill Road

October 07, 1994

A Montgomery County woman was raped in a wooded area near Old Mill Road early yesterday by a man who picked her up hitchhiking in Essex, county police said.

The 38-year-old woman told police she was hitchhiking from a bar when a man in a small red car offered her a ride home.

She said she was driven to Old Mill Road, where the man pulled over -- ostensibly to check his tire.

Instead, the man dragged her into nearby woods and raped her, authorities said. He escaped in the car, and the woman walked to a home in the 1600 block of George St. to get help shortly after 1:30 a.m., police said.

Police lieutenant confiscates case of beer

An Eastern District lieutenant confiscated a case of beer Wednesday night from an 20-year-old man on the parking lot of Northway Shopping Center, county police said.

Lt. William Tankersley reported that he was on patrol shortly before 10 p.m. in the shopping center in the 8200 block of Route 3, Millersville. He saw the man carry the beer into a sandwich shop and followed him, police said.

Lieutenant Tankersley asked the man for identification and learned he was a year under the legal drinking age. The man claimed he had found the case of beer in a wooded area, police said.

The lieutenant gave the man a verbal warning and took the beer to Eastern District station, where it was marked for destruction and placed in the evidence room, police said.
