AIDS benefit Oct. 13

Mark Oct. 13 on your calendar and plan to eat out at one of the local restaurants participating in Dining Out for Life. Twenty percent of your check will go to Moveable Feast, the charity that provides meals for people with AIDS. Call (410) 366-LIFE for a list of participating restaurants.

* Can't get to Jean-Louis at the Watergate for dinner, or can't afford to? Then stop at the Sutton Place Gourmet and pick up a few gourmet-to-go items. Famed Washington chef Jean-Louis Palladin has signed on as the company's consultant. He'll create four seasonal menus with recipes each year for Sutton Place's prepared foods department. Sutton Place Gourmet chefs will be trained in Chef Palladin's kitchens.

* People like Sam's Bagels so much the owners opened one, and then another -- and then last month the newest, at 3121 St. Paul St. Just this week, they started renovating a space in Catonsville on Frederick Road a mile and a half past the beltway. Another Sam's will open there in about six weeks.
