Fall calendar includes dancing, bingo, the Great Pumpkin

Stop doing the "Couch Potato" and learn to do the "Watermelon Crawl" Friday night.

American Legion Hesson Snyder Post 120 is offering a series of six Friday night dance parties from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the legion home, 9 Broad St. in Taneytown.

At each session there will be a cash bar, an hour of lessons and three hours of open dancing.

This week, the disc jockey service Dancing to Country will provide the music. The cost is $5 per person. This month's dances will be Oct. 7 and 14.

Join the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company on Saturday for dinner and a Bingo Bonanza.

Doors to the activity building on Memorial Drive open at 4 p.m.

Tickets for the evening are $20 per person. Included in the price are paper cards for all games and specials, and a hot turkey dinner to be served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Sides for the turkey dinner are dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, apple sauce, rolls and butter.

Free coffee and punch will be served all evening. Free popcorn will be served during intermission.

Bingo Bonanza will run from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

There will be 25 regular games, five bingo specials, five letter specials, a triangle special and a jackpot.

Try your hand and you could win a portion of the $2,600 in prizes.

Visit the Great Pumpkin this Saturday at Taneytown Super Thrift during its sidewalk sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Great Pumpkin will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Treats for children will also be given out between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Even if you don't have children, you still might want to stop by for a light lunch. Hot dogs and 12-ounce Cokes will be sold for 25 cents each.

If a more hearty meal is what you desire, stop by St. Paul's United Methodist Church in New Windsor for an early dinner Saturday.

A buffet meal of fried chicken, crab cakes or hot dog platters will be served from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church's annual Apple Festival.

A la carte items will include three kinds of salads, ham-flavored green beans, chicken corn soup and other buffet favorites at reasonable prices.

Top off your meal with a homemade apple dessert. Apple dumplings, pie, crisps and cake may be purchased after your meal. Eat them alone or a la mode with a scoop of fresh homemade ice cream.

All proceeds will benefit the church's general fund.

St. Paul's United Methodist Church is at 200 Main St. in New Windsor.

Taneytown Life Chain '94 will form Sunday at the corner of Baltimore and York streets in Taneytown. Participants will link together between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. rain or shine for prayer.

Tuesday evening, Fallfest comes to nearby Kingsdale, Pa.

Twenty regular games, five special games and one jackpot game of bingo will be played beginning at 7 p.m. in the activities hall of the Kingsdale Fire Company.

Admission is $5 per person, which includes six hard cards, six special cards and one jackpot card. Extra cards will be available.

Prizes of flour, sugar, eggs, milk and other food staples will be awarded to winners.

The evening is sponsored by the Kingsdale Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary.

Door prizes and raffles will be held, and refreshments will be served.

Doors open at 6 p.m. The Kingsdale Fire Company is north of Taneytown on Route 194 just over the Pennsylvania line.
