Thunder to play league opener at home against Boston Jan. 7

The Major Indoor Lacrosse League announced yesterday that it will open and close its 1995 schedule with games involving the Baltimore Thunder.

The Thunder will begin the MILL's ninth season on Jan. 7, when it plays host to the Boston Blazers in an 8 p.m. game at the Baltimore Arena. The Thunder will wrap up its eight-game regular-season schedule on March 11, when it visits the defending league champion Philadelphia Wings at the Spectrum.

Baltimore's second-year coach, Skip Lichtfuss, is hoping that the nucleus of last year's squad and four draft picks will help the Thunder improve on last year's 1-7 mark.

Former Towson State standout Stewart Crotty was the first player selected by Baltimore in the recent draft. Crotty, a 6-foot, 172-pound midfielder, scored 22 goals and 20 assists in 39 games for the Tigers.

The Thunder also picked Ryan Murphy (Salisbury State), Bill Daye (North Carolina) and Canadian Dan Stroup.

The four teams with the best records will compete in the postseason.
