Man is robbed in Giant parking lot

October 05, 1994

A gunman robbed a Glen Burnie man Monday afternoon as he was walking on the parking lot of a Giant Food supermarket in the 7900 block of Crain Highway, county police said.

Samuel Lynn Douglas, 33, told police that a man walked up to him shortly before 3 p.m. and put a black 9mm handgun to his head. The gunman threatened to kill Mr. Douglas if he didn't hand over his money, police said.

The gunman removed Mr. Douglas' wallet, and threw it to the ground after removing the money. He fled in a 1978 Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Trans Am driven by an accomplice. The car was last seen heading north on Crain Highway, police said.

Man is run over after an argument

A Glen Burnie man was in serious condition yesterday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after being run over with a truck Monday evening, county police said.

Earl Lee Mitchell, 26, was walking across Guildford Road after fighting there with two men when one of them ran over him with a truck. Witnesses told police that the man suspected of driving the truck lives on Howard Road, and one of them led Northern District Officer Elizabeth Pusloskie to a home where she found the truck in the driveway, police said.

Thomas Harold Smith, 23, of the 1300 block of Howard Road turned himself in at the state police barracks in Glen Burnie shortly before 9 p.m. Monday and was charged with assault with intent to murder, authorities said.
