Houston Astros -- Announced that hitting coach Ben Hines resigned due to impending rotator cuff surgery on his left shoulder. Moved first base coach Steve Henderson to hitting coach.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Designated P Jim Gott, P Roger McDowell and OF Cory Snyder for assignment. Purchased the contracts of C Tom Prince, C Jerry Brooks, P Al Osuna and OF Reggie Williams.

New York Yankees -- Announced player development contracts for two years with Columbus of the Triple-A International League, Norwich of the Double-A Eastern League, Greensboro of the Single-A South Atlantic League and Oneonta of the short-season Single-A New York-Penn League. Named Bill Evers manager of Columbus and Jake Gibbs manager of Single-A Tampa. Reassigned Triple-A manager Stump Merrill.

San Francisco Giants -- Reinstated P Mark Portugal, P Mike Jackson and P Kevin Rogers from the 15-day DL. Purchased the contract of catcher C Tom Lampkin. Designated IF Erik Johnson for assignment.

Tampa Bay Lightning -- Assigned F Martin Tanguay, F Marc Tardif and F Tom MacDonald to ECHL Nashville.

Toronto Maple Leafs -- Traded LW Eric Lacroix, D Chris Snell and a 1996 fourth-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Kings for RW Dixon Ward, C Guy Leveque and the rights to RW Shayne Toporowski and C Kelly Fairchild.
