Towson women beat Charleston Southern

Junior Tracy Zettle (South River) scored twice and senior goalie Susie Blanco made 15 saves last night as Towson State beat visiting Charleston Southern, 3-0, in a Big South Conference women's soccer game.

Zettle gave the Tigers (5-6, 2-2) a 1-0 lead at the 6:03 mark on a pass from sophomore Ashlee Douglas (North Carroll). The Tigers scored twice in the final 21 minutes to seal the win.

Charleston Southern (5-6, 2-3) outshot Towson State, 22-17.

* Navy 5, Frostburg State 0: Cori Thornton scored two goals and Jenny Meyer had two assists as Navy beat host Frostburg State.

Thornton scored the first goal off an assist by Ty Westinghouse, who then scored on an assist by Meyer.

Thornton, who leads Navy scorers with 28 points, registered her second goal for a 3-0 halftime lead. Christa Richardson and Patty Despain both scored second-half goals.

Navy improved to 5-5 and Frostburg State fell to 5-3.

* Essex CC 3, Catonsville CC 1: Kathleen Fort scored the game-winner 39:59 into the first half as Essex (3-1-2) edged Catonsville (4-1-1) in a Maryland JuCo League game. Brandi Frederick scored an insurance goal 24:08 into the second half. Essex outshot Catonsville, 13-6.

Men

* Winthrop 4, Towson State 2: Junior forward Andrew Uglehus had a hat trick to lead host Winthrop (9-1-1, 4-0) past Towson State (5-6, 1-4) in an overtime Big South Conference game.

Uglehus scored the game-winner at 94:40 and Andy Lord added an insurance goal at 116:51. Gary Baker had three assists for Winthrop, which outshot Towson State, 24-11.
