Dickinson's Martin 2-for-2 when game is on the line

Dickinson junior Julie Martin (Garrison Forest) couldn't have picked more opportune moments for her first two goals of the field hockey season.

The first was the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Muhlenberg. Two days later, she scored her second, again the game-winner as Dickinson edged Elizabethtown, 2-1, to raise its winning streak to five and its overall record to 6-2.

* In eight games, sophomore goalie Kristin Butler (Annapolis) has 60 saves while allowing 21 goals for 4-4 Colgate.

Volleyball

Middle blocker Amy Strasbaugh (Dundalk) has 17 digs, eight kills and six blocks for 5-2 Jacksonville. A marine biology major, she received the athletic department's Community Service Award for her work with Student-Athletes Care for Kids program.

* American University junior Sherita Hall (High Point) is second in the Colonial Athletic Association in hitting percentage (.317) and block average (1.32).

* Katherine Joy (LaReine) has 46 kills and 85 digs for 9-9 Georgetown. Last year as a sophomore, she totaled 30 kills.

Softball

La Salle's Jen Bostak (Old Mill), a junior third baseman, was named a 1995 co-captain. Last spring she batted .324, was voted to the All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference first team and made the dean's list with a 3.48 grade-point average in her mathematics major.

"Jen has exhibited leadership qualities ever since she arrived at La Salle," said coach Ray Perri. "Even though she's only a junior, I'm sure she'll be an inspirational captain."

Freshman cross country runner Dave Krantz (Howard) was Dickinson's second finisher and 14th overall in the Dickinson Open. . . . Ben Lyng (Towson), American's No. 2 runner, finished 68th in the George Mason/Georgetown Invitational to help the Eagles finish 13th. . . . Brad Kroll (Easton) had a goal and an assist as Mary Washington extended its soccer winning streak to seven with shutouts against Longwood and Marymount. . . . In volleyball, Mary Washington sophomore Kirsten Franklin (Glenelg) collected four kills and five digs in a loss to Goucher. . . . Senior Rachel Goldfine (McDonogh) has a 19-7 tennis career record, including a 3-3 this season for Union. . . . In its first season of women's varsity soccer, East Carolina is led by Robyn DePasquale (Mercy, Essex Community College) with three goals and an assist. . . . Sophomore forward Amity Torbit (John Carroll) is Barry University's No. 2 women's soccer scorer with four goals and two assists in six games.
