Holding Their Own

IN STYLE

So much style for so little investment! Suspenders, once favored only by old-fogy bankers, are the way to add zip to this fall's separates. They now keep her career suit from looking too stuffy, and hold up anything from pin-stripe pants to miniskirts.

In bright colors, they add as much interest to an outfit as a vest, but without the weight or bulk. And if you think they're for office wear only, think again. There are kiddie versions for preschoolers and black and metallic numbers for teens with attitude. Even car-pool moms can give their busy-day denim skirts a little spin by adding suspenders.
