Man, 79, struggles with intruder

September 29, 1994

An Arnold man was attacked in his home Tuesday morning by a man who broke in through a bedroom window and stole $100 from his wallet, county police said.

Charles Hunt, 79, refused hospital treatment after the 2 a.m. incident, police said. Mr. Hunt was awakened by the sound of the man coming through a window. The intruder hit him in the back of the head with an unknown object and the two struggled briefly before Mr. Hunt broke free and locked himself in the bathroom, police said.

Mr. Hunt stayed in the bathroom for 30 to 45 minutes before he came out and called police. He discovered the man had taken his wallet and checkbook from his pants, which were lying on a chair, police said.

Police believe the suspect escaped through the same window he used to enter Mr. Hunt's home.
