Boston Red Sox -- Fired trainer Charlie Moss. Reached a two-year working agreement with Single-A Peoria.

California Angels -- Asked hitting coach Rod Carew, pitching coach Chuck Hernandez, bench coach Bobby Knoop, bullpen coach Joe Maddon and part-time outfield coach Sam Suplizio to return. Added former Oriole Rick Burleson and Bill Lachemann to the coaching staff.

Cincinnati Reds -- Will not offer a contract to IF Tony Fernandez for next season.

Colorado Rockies -- Renewed their working agreement with Double-A New Haven for two years.

Detroit Tigers -- Reached a two-year working agreement with Double-A Jacksonville.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Reached a two-year working agreement with Single-A San Bernadino.

New York Yankees -- Exercised the option on the contract of C Mike Stanley.


Chicago Bulls -- Re-signed C Bill Wennington to a multi-year contract.

Golden State Warriors -- Signed F-G Dwayne Morton, a second-round pick, to a one-year contract.

Los Angeles Clippers -- Re-signed G Harold Ellis.

Orlando Magic -- Signed free-agent G Brian Shaw to a one-year contract.


NCAA -- Accused Alabama football of two possible rules violations, raising questions about a bank loan obtained by Gene Jelks and asking whether Alabama officials responded promptly to information about an agent contacting Antonio Langham. Also cleared Texas WR Lovell Pinkney from a two-game suspension.

Mid-America Conference -- Extended the probation against the Ball State men's basketball program for illegal payments and recruiting violations for three years.

Vanderbilt -- Named former Washington Bullets F Charles Davis an assistant basketball coach.


Cincinnati Bengals -- Claimed LB Brett Wallerstedt on waivers from the Denver Broncos. Released LB Eric Shaw.

Indianapolis Colts -- Waived DL Lance Teichelman.

New York Giants -- Released WR Mark Jackson.

British Columbia Lions (CFL) -- Added K Lui Passaglia to the roster from the reserve list. Added WR Freeman Baysinger and dTC DB Enis Jackson to the roster. Moved RB Cory Philpot (league's leading rusher), DB Kelly Sims and WR Mervyn Fernandez to the injured list.

Edmonton Eskimos (CFL) -- Added CB Charles Wright to the roster and moved him to the Shreveport Pirates.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) -- Added LB Marcus Cotton, Gary Morris and Herman Smith to the roster. Moved WR Lonzell Hill and DE Greg Patrick to the injured list.

Las Vegas Posse (CFL) -- Added G Haywood Haynes, DB David Hollis, and SB Prince Wimbley to the injured list. Moved G Ron Shipley to the reserve list. Removed DT Keith Embray and SB Allen Whiting from the roster.

Shreveport Pirates (CFL) -- Moved CB Don Caparotti and DL Brian Dyet to the injured list. Removed WR Rob Wallow from the roster.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL) -- Added CB Ken Burress and DT Rob Davidson to the roster from the injured list. Added QB Matt Dunigan to the roster and moved him to the reserve list. Removed WR Nathaniel Bolton and OL Ed Kucy from the roster.


PGA Tour -- Announced that Nick Faldo will join the U.S. tour next year.


Mighty Ducks of Anaheim -- Recalled G Allan Bester from IHL San Diego. Assigned LW Denny Lambert to San Diego. G Guy Hebert left the club with a family emergency.

Buffalo Sabres -- Assigned F Matthew Barnaby to AHL Rochester.

Los Angeles Kings -- Signed G Andre Racicot to a two-year contract and assigned him to IHL Phoenix.

Montreal Canadiens -- Re-signed LW Vincent Damphousse to a four-year contract worth $10 million.

New York Islanders -- Traded G Ron Hextall and a 1995 sixth-round draft pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for G Tommy Soderstrom.

Washington Capitals -- D Brendan Witt left camp.
