PAC offering chance to meet the candidates

The Howard County Political Action Committee will sponsor a Meet the Candidates Political Rally Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on WednesdaySept. 28 at the Columbia Inn. The cost is $5, and reservations are necessary.

McCabe to hold annual Flapjack Fest

Republican State Sen. Christopher J. McCabe will hold his fourth annual Fall Flapjack Fest from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Howard County School of Technology, 10920 Route 108 in Ellicott City. Featured will be a silent auction, Redskins ticket raffle, pumpkins for sale and brunch. Tickets are $10 for adults, $3 for children ages 5 to 14. Children under 5 eat free. Information: 531-2870.

Candidate Layman to hold picnic

George Layman, the Democratic candidate for the Howard County Council, 1st District, will hold a picnic from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Lions Club, Votta Drive, Routes 103 and 104 in Ellicott City.

A donation of $20 per person is asked. For tickets or more information, call 461-6787.

Civic group plans candidate forum

The North Laurel Civic Association will sponsor a forum from 8:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 4 at Laurel Woods Elementary School at which voters will be able to question candidates for the House of Delegates and state Senate.

In District 13B, Republican John Morgan and Democrat John Giannetti are running for the delegate seat. The District 13 Senate candidates are Democrat Virginia M. Thomas and Republican Martin G. Madden.

The association also is sponsoring a forum from 8:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 11 for county executive and for County Council candidates from the North Laurel area.

In the race for county executive are Republican incumbent Charles I. Ecker and Democrat Susan Gray. For County Council, Republican Dennis Schrader faces Democrat Charles Acquard for the south Columbia-Savage-North Laurel seat.

Groups to sponsor candidate forum Oct. 8

A candidate forum will be sponsored by 14 organizations, including the Howard County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the League of Women Voters, the National Council of Jewish Women and the Howard County Bar Association, on Oct. 8 at Smith Auditorium, Howard Community College in Columbia.

The introduction will be from 9 a.m. to 9:10 a.m.; school board candidates from 9:10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.; county executive, 10:20 a.m. to 11 a.m.; County Council, 11:05 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; House of Delegates, 1:15 p.m. to 2:25 p.m.; state Senate, 2:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m.; and state's attorney, 3:25 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

PTA to hold forum for candidates

The PTA Council of Howard County and the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Board of Education will hold a forum for candidates of the Board of Education in the Board Room at the Board of Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12.
