Ellicott City: 3300 block of N. Chatham Road: Someone tried to steal a 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier Friday or Saturday, police said.

9100 block of Route 40: Someone cut the lock off a storage shed at a restaurant Friday, but took nothing. Police said an empty beer keg was taken from the trash bin area.

8400 block of Route 40: Cash, scissors and clippers were stolen from the Visual Changes hair salon after someone broke the lock off a front door early Friday, police said.

5600 block of Waterloo Road: An officer responding to an alarm at Stewart Gas station found the glass smashed on a business office just after midnight Monday. A cash drawer and several cartons of cigarettes were reported stolen, police said.

4800 block of Montgomery Road: Someone smashed the front glass door of a High's store with a trash can and stole 40 cartons of cigarettes early Saturday, police said.

* Elkridge: 6600 block of Amberton Drive: An officer reponding to a business alarm at a mattress company found the main office door smashed and two offices ransacked early Sunday. Police said nothing was taken.
