POLICE LOG

* Glenwood: 14600 block of Dorsey Mill Road: Silver, jewelry, coins and a violin were stolen from a home, which also was ransacked Tuesday. Police said someone took a ladder from a nearby shed area and used it to get to a second-floor bedroom window, and then entered.

* Woodbine: 6300 block of Old Washington Road: A wallet and a briefcase were stolen from a home early Wednesday morning. Police said a second-floor window screen was removed but that the front door was found unlocked and ajar.

* North Laurel: 9900 block of U.S. 1: A 39-year-old Laurel man was arrested Tuesday night after witnesses saw him break the front window of Smokin' Joe's BBQ and enter the business. Christian Demetrius Proch was being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $500 bail yesterday.

* Scaggsville: 7100 block of Chilton Court: Someone attempted to enter a house under construction over the weekend by prying it open, police said.

* Jessup: 8100 block of U.S. 1: Thieves cut a hole in a fence at Spartan Express, entered three trailers and stole plastic storage boxes and tires between Saturday and Monday, police said.
