Maryland tops American, 4-2

Shane Dougherty scored the game-winner on an assist from Tod Herskovitz in the second overtime to lead host Maryland (3-1-0) to a 4-2 victory over American (3-2-1) in men's soccer yesterday.

* Salisbury State 3, Catholic 0: Junior forward Willie Morris scored a goal and had an assist to lead Salisbury State (3-0, 2-0) past host Catholic (1-1, 0-1).

* Georgetown 1, Mount St. Mary's 0: Georgetown's Ben McKnight scored midway through the first half to lift the host Hoyas (4-1) past Mount St. Mary's (2-2).

Women's soccer

* Goucher 4, Marymount 0: Sophomore midfielder Jessica Barry scored the game-winner at the 39th minute as host Goucher (5-0, 1-0) got its first Capital Athletic Conference win in its four-year history.

Field hockey

* Notre Dame 2, Eastern (Pa.) 1: Julie Desmond and Tina Houck scored to lead visiting College of Notre Dame (1-4).
