Man purchases gas, oil with altered bill

September 12, 1994

A man paid a gas station clerk with altered currency Wednesday, after cutting two corners off a $1 bill and replacing them with the corners of a $10 bill, county police said.

The man's bill for gas and oil at an Amoco station in the 8500 block of Fort Smallwood Road totaled $12.26. He gave the clerk three normal $1 bills and the bogus one.

The scam was noticed during the shift change. The 11:30 a.m. transaction was captured on the store's video camera, police said.
