Motorcyclist injured in collision with car

A 23-year-old Columbia man was injured yesterday when he was thrown 40 feet after his motorcycle collided with a car on Broken Land Parkway in Owen Brown, Howard County police said.

Stanley Roberts, 23, of the 10000 block of Hickory Ridge Road was listed in serious condition yesterday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was flown by state police helicopter.

L Police said he suffered injuries to his legs and lower body.

The driver of the car, Helen Metz, 66, of the 1000 block of Leeds Avenue in Arbutus was not injured, police said.

About 2:10 p.m., Ms. Metz was traveling north on Broken Land Parkway and began to make a left turn onto the westbound lane of Route 32.

Her vehicle collided with Mr. Roberts' motorcycle as he headed south on Broken Land Parkway, said Cpl. Fred Von Briesen of the Traffic Enforcement Section.

No charges have been filed in the accident, which is still under investigation, according to Corporal Von Briesen.
