In a sign that serious bargaining soon may begin, several owners and officials of the players union resumed talks in New York last night. A formal bargaining session is expected to be held sometime today.

Games lost

Fourteen games were canceled yesterday. The total number missed is 352. Only 317 games remain.


"What the players want is to continue the season. Basically what we've done is give the owners the ability to come to us and negotiate a contract. All we can do is . . . just wait around and see what happens." -- Jay Bell of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
