Registered voters received sample ballots in the mail last week for Tuesday's primary election. Polling places are marked the ballots.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and remain open until 8 p.m. For information, call the county elections board at 313-2714.

Voter registration forms are available from the board, at all Howard County libraries, public schools and post offices. It's too late to register for the primary election, but registration for the general election reopens Sept. 26.

While you're thinking of supporting our local schools, don't forget that many school PTAs sponsor gift wrap sales this time of year. Bushy Park's PTA's sale began Friday and will end Sept. 16.

Clarksville Elementary's PTA's sale begins today and runs through the end of the month. Many PTAs make the bulk of the money they use to support the schools through these gift wrap sales, and they appreciate your support.

The Glenwood Middle School community can roll along with the Glenwood PTSA this Friday at the get-acquainted in-line skating party in the school parking lot.

Don't have in-line skates? The Glenwood PTSA will provide them for those who need them. There will be separate areas for smaller and novice skaters and for accomplished skaters.

Families are invited to come and skate together. A disc jockey will provide music to get you going.

Admission is a two-liter bottle of soft drink or a can of juice per family. The party starts at 6 p.m. and continues until dark.

To celebrate the beginning of the Western Howard County Youth Soccer season Saturday, there will be a challenge at the in-line skating party. Officer Tom Bellman, a county Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education (DARE) officer will use a radar gun to clock the speed of any child's goal on the soccer field.

Prizes, courtesy of Kodak and AT&T, will be awarded for the best kicks. For more information about the party, call 313-5520.
