Yesterday marked the midpoint between the start of the strike Aug. 12 and the scheduled end of the regular season Oct. 2. No formal talks are

scheduled, but acting commissioner Bud Selig of the Brewers said his deadline of Friday for canceling the rest of the season could be flexible if a deal was close to being struck.

Games lost

Fourteen games were canceled yesterday. The total number missed is 338. Only 331 games remain.
