September 07, 1994

A Glen Burnie man was in serious but stable condition yesterday after suffering head injuries Sunday night when his bicycle collided with a truck in Ferndale, county police said.

Harry Martin Brown, 35, of the 100 block of Olen Drive was riding his bicycle south on Glenmont Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m. when he turned left into the path of a 1977 Chevrolet truck. He hit the truck's right side and was thrown 5 or 6 feet from his bicycle, police said.

The truck's driver, Donald Herbert Coulbourn Jr., 35, of the 100 block of Wilson Blvd. S.W. was not harmed.

Would-be thief thwarted; he leaves $5 behind

A would-be bandit fled empty-handed from a Texaco gas station on Ritchie Highway Friday night after the clerk set off an alarm, county police said.

The man walked into the station in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway shortly before 9 p.m., gave the clerk a $5 bill and asked for five $1 bills in return. When the clerk opened the cash register, the suspect pulled a small handgun from a plastic bag, cocked it and pointed it at the clerk. He then ordered her to empty the cash register into the bag, police said.

The suspect ran off when he saw the clerk push the holdup alarm under the register. He left the $5 bill behind, police said.
