Registration for fall sports is this weekend

The Gambrills Odenton Recreation Council will hold registration for boys' and girls' basketball, clinic basketball and wrestling for 50-pound to 150-pound classes from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Registration will be held at the lower concession stand at Francis Station Park.

Fees are $35 for one child, $10 for the second child, and $5 for each additional child. For registration information, call Charmane Smith at 621-7821.

* The Anne Arundel County library announces that its summer reading program was a great success!

At the Odenton Branch Library alone, 712 children registered, up from 576 last year. Good going, kids!

* The Gambrills Teen Club will be going to Kings Dominion Sunday. Buses will leave the club at 7:30 a.m. and return about 10 p.m.

The cost of the trip is $36, which includes admission to the park and bus fare.

The group plans a stop to eat on the return trip.

The club is having a general membership meeting from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 25 at the club house on McKnew Road. New members are welcome. The club meets on the first and third Sunday of the month.

Dues are $5 and include a newsletter informing you of activities or meetings.

* The next meeting of the United Methodist Women of Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15.

A potluck dinner will be followed by the program. All women of the church are welcome to attend.

* The O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road, is sponsoring financial seminar at 1:30 p.m., Sept. 16, presented by David Petrucci.

Mr. Petrucci is an investment executive with Legg Mason who specializes in asset allocation and retirement planning.

There is no fee for this program, but registration is required.

* The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a county executive forum from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sept. 28 at Rick's Cafe in the Odenton Shopping Center.

The candidates will submit written responses to questions prepared by the chamber. These positions will then be distributed at the forum along with the candidates' literature.

The format will be a round-table discussion, with questions from the floor and follow-up questions encouraged.

The forum is free and open to the public.
