Chicago Cubs -- Recalled P Steve Trachsel from Triple-A Iowa.

Chicago White Sox -- Extended working agreements with Triple-A Nashville; Double-A Birmingham; Single-A Prince William and Single-A South Bend through 1996. Agreed to a working agreement with Rookie-level Bristol, Va., on a two-year contract beginning in June 1995.

New York Mets -- Extended the working agreement with Columbia, S.C., of the Single-A South Atlantic League through 1997.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Recalled P Randy Tomlin from Triple-A Buffalo and placed him on the 15-day DL.

New York Yankees -- Acquired P Scott Bankhead (3-2 with a 4.54 ERA in 27 appearances) from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named and cash. Traded P Paul Gibson (1-1 with a 4.97 ERA in 30 relief appearances) to the Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named. Gibson is New York's player rep.

Texas Rangers -- Called up OF Rob Ducey from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Basketball

Detroit Pistons -- Named former Washington Bullets coach K. C. Jones assistant coach.

Washington Bullets -- Announced that C Gheorghe Muresan underwent sinus surgery and will be restricted from vigorous activity for two weeks.

College

NCAA -- Announced an end to the probation of Middle Tennessee State's men's basketball program.

Big East Conference -- Announced three-person officiating crews women's basketball, beginning in the 1995-96 season.

California -- Announced that TE Matt Johnson injured his left knee and is expected to miss the first few weeks of the season.

Florida State -- Suspended OT Forrest Conoly for four games for taking illegal gifts from sports agents.

King's, N.Y. -- Named Jim Aller men's basketball coach.

Mount St. Mary's -- Announced that Robert Pastoor, VP for student affairs, will serve as acting AD. Announced that sophomore F Larry Townes will miss the first semester of the 1994-95 men's basketball season for academic reasons. Announced that junior Allyn Lewis, a reserve center on the women's basketball team for two years, has transferred to Virginia Commonwealth.

Penn State -- Announced that junior DT Eric Clair sprained a knee in practice Thursday and will be sidelined at least two weeks.

Upsala -- Announced the restoration of men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's soccer and women's cross country.

Football

Cleveland Browns -- Signed G Mike Bedosky. Waived WR Patrick Newman.

Indianapolis Colts -- Signed DL Lance Teichelman and WR Mike Cook to the practice squad.

British Columbia Lions (CFL) -- Activated LB Doug Hocking from the reserve list and placed him on the injured list. Activated DB Kelly Sims and DT Kent Warnock from the injured list and waived Warnock. Placed DB Enis Jackson on the injured list. Extended the time WR Freemann Baysinger, WR Yo Murphy, OL Chris Green and K Lui Passaglia will spend on the injured list.

Las Vegas Posse (CFL) -- Activated LB Tim Broady and LB Greg Tucker from the injured list. Placed T Tom Backes and DB David Hollis on the injured list. Extended the time DE Jeff Sawyer will spend on the injured list.

Sacramento Gold Miners (CFL) -- Activated CB Doug Parrish, DT Chris Thieneman and former Washington Redskins RB Mike Oliphant from the injured list and placed Oliphant and Parrish on the reserve list. Placed LB George Bethune, WR Tony Jones and CB Kenny Wilhite on the injured list. Extended the time LB Matt Jaworski, DE James King and DB Robert Turner will spend on the injured list.

Shreveport Pirates (CFL) -- Activated DT Ben Williams from the reserve list. Waived DT Alex Mash and DT Johnny Scott.

Toronto Argonauts (CFL) -- Activated DB Tim Jackson and DB Henry Charles from the injured list.

Hockey

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim -- Signed LW Paul Kariya.

Hartford Whalers -- Agreed to terms with D John Stevens on a multi-year contract.

Los Angeles Kings -- Re-signed RW Jari Kurri for one year. Signed LW Mike Donnelly and former Washington Capitals RW John Druce for two years with one-year options. Signed LW Keith Redmond, LW Kevin Todd, LW Pat Conacher and C Robert Lang for one year with one-year options.

Toronto Maple Leafs -- Re-signed LW Dave Andreychuck.

Washington Capitals -- Signed D Jim Johnson and D John Slaney.

Minnesota Moose (IHL) -- Signed former Capitals RW Dave Christian, who has played 1,009 NHL games.

Soccer

U.S. national team -- Added F John Kerr for Wednesday's game against England at Wembley Stadium. Dropped G Kasey Keller. Both play for Millwall in Division One of the English League.

U.S. Soccer Federation -- Extended the contract of executive director-secretary general Hank Steinbrecher five years through 2000.
