Gov. Schaefer swears in military officer

Gov. William Donald Schaefer swore in Col. Bruce F. Tuxill of Ellicott City as assistant adjutant general of the Maryland Air National Guard at a recent ceremony at the State House in Annapolis.

Colonel Tuxill, who commanded the 175th Fighter Group at Warfield Air National Guard Base in Middle River, also received a certificate of appreciation in a separate ceremony at a staff meeting at the Chestertown Armory.

Brig. Gen. Thomas C. Johnson presented the certificate to Colonel Tuxill for the Maryland Air National Guard's participation in the Military Youth Corps Challenge Program. The 22-week program is a military resident activity at Aberdeen Proving Ground for high school dropouts between the ages of 16 and 18.


* Ellicott City: 8600 block of Town and Country Blvd.: A man with a white bandanna covering his face slipped through a home's unlocked sliding screen door and grabbed $60 from a table while residents sat in nearby room watching television at 9 p.m. Monday night, police said.

8400 block of Oakton Lane: A portable "flip" phone was stolen after someone entered through a home's sliding glass door Saturday, police said.

4100 block of New Cut Road: A blue 1977 GMC truck with Maryland tags 351-852 was stolen Tuesday. Police said the vehicle's keys had been left inside.

* Elkridge: 3500 block of Shady Lane: A generator was stolen from a house under construction Monday or Tuesday. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.
