Glenwood car crash kills man, 51

September 01, 1994

A Baltimore County man was killed early yesterday when his car veered off Route 97 and slammed into a utility pole in Glenwood, Howard County police said.

Bernard Abrams, 51, of the 3000 block of Katewood Court in Pikesville was pronounced dead at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he had been taken by a state police MedEvac helicopter.

About 2 a.m., Mr. Abrams was driving his Pontiac Firebird south on Route 97, just south of MacClintock Drive. He lost control of the vehicle on a curve and crossed into the northbound lane, police said.

Mr. Abrams steered the car back into the southbound lane, but the vehicle rotated clockwise and crashed into a wooden fence on the right side of the road, police said, striking a utility pole before spinning and coming to a stop.

Mr. Abrams was wearing his seat belt, and two air bags inflated. Police preliminarily cited excessive speed as the cause of the accident.
