August 30, 1994

Howard County emergency workers rescued a 27-year-old Owings Mills woman Sunday night after she fell down a steep embankment in the Holofield section of Patapsco Valley State Park in Ellicott City.

Rescuers used four-wheel-drive vehicles to reach the site near a rail line about 2 miles from Old Frederick Road at 7:26 p.m., said Lt. Ken Byerly, a county Department of Fire and Rescue Services spokesman.

After locating the victim, Kathy Sparklin of the 10900 block of Huntcliff Drive, emergency workers hoisted her to safety by 9 p.m., Lieutenant Byerly said.

Ms. Sparklin was taken by ambulance to Saint Agnes Hospital. She was released yesterday afternoon, according to a hospital spokesman.
