August 30, 1994

Howard County police said they were waiting to interview a 21-year-old Columbia man who was shot Sunday night.

Jason Paul Carasone of the 8900 block of Footed Ridge in Long Reach was in critical condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore yesterday. He suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, according to police.

Police said a man who was visiting a friend in the 8900 block of Footed Ridge went outside with a .22-caliber rifle to investigate a noise about 10 p.m., and a shot was fired.

A 24-year-old Laurel man was questioned Sunday night at police headquarters in Ellicott City, but no charges were filed, said Sgt. Steve Keller.

Police want to interview Mr. Carasone to hear his version of the story. "We're trying to determine exactly what happened to prompt the shooting," Sergeant Keller said.
