Woman is dragged across mall parking lot as men in car steal her purse

August 29, 1994

A Columbia woman was dragged across the parking lot of Marley Station mall Thursday afternoon when a man reached out of a passing car and snatched her purse, police said.

Sharon Vollmerhausen, 42, was not seriously injured, police said. She was walking toward her car near J. C. Penney about 4 p.m. when the theft occurred.

A man inside the passing car grabbed her purse, while the driver continued across the lot, dragging Ms. Vollmerhausen a few feet as the thief wrestled the purse from her grasp, police said.

Ms. Vollmerhausen could not give police a detailed description of the three men inside the car. She said the car was a black, four-door with gray electrical tape on the back windshield.
