Witnesses chase man who stole candy from Basics

August 29, 1994

A man who stole 22 bags of candy from a Basics Food Store in Brooklyn Park Thursday evening eluded a group of people who chased him to a nearby park, police said.

Around 7:30 p.m., the man walked into the store in the 5600 block of Ritchie Highway, put the candy in a hand cart and left without paying, police said.

The store manager chased him north on Ritchie Highway to 13th Avenue, police said.

The man dropped the candy, which the manager picked up and took back to the store. Several witnesses chased the man toward Brooklyn Park No. 1 on 10th Ave., but lost him, police said.
