Ladies auxiliary to resume its dinner-bingo parties

The Orchard Beach Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will resume its monthly Sunday dinner-bingo party schedule on Sept. 11 at the Solley Road fire hall.

Early bird games begin at 11:30 a.m. Dinner will be served from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., with regular bingo games to follow.

Tickets are $20 each and include a hot platter, dessert, beverage and a game package.

Chesapeake Christian Center will celebrate Pastor Appreciation Sunday this weekend.

The congregation will honor the Rev. Glen Morris for seven years of outstanding service to the community as a pastor and leader.

The 10:45 a.m. morning service will feature messages from several members of the congregation. A reception and fellowship time in honor of the pastor will follow the 6:30 p.m. service.

Riviera Girls Softball League is offering two programs for girls this fall.

A five-week fall league for young players will be offered by the RGSL beginning Sept. 11.

The league is open to girls in the 14-and-under select and 12-and-under intramural age groups.

The RGSL fall pitching clinic is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Rock Creel Park in Riviera Beach.

This clinic is open to all girls interested in learning the basics of windmill pitching.

All participants must provide their own catcher and ball.

Magothy-Chelsea Community Lutheran Church is sponsoring a crab feast from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Star Club on Lyman Road in Greenhaven.

Tickets are $18 and include spicy steamed crabs, soup, salads, corn on the cob, hot and cold buffet items and beverages. Music will be provided by a disc jockey.

Proceeds will help defray the cost of a new heating and air conditioning unit for the Chelsea Beach church.

Downs Park volunteers are gearing up for their annual Halloween Haunted Trail on Oct. 29.

Handy with a hammer? Trail preparation work nights are scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday evenings at the park maintenance shop. Please, no small children on trail prep nights; workers under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Trail monsters, face painters, ticket sellers and many other positions will be needed to make this year's event a success.

* A two-part basic boating course providing an overview of the rules and fundamentals of safe boating will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 17 and 24 at Downs Park.

The course also will help familiarize students with required safety equipment, and other information for first-time boat operators. Maryland's boating safety education law requires that all boat operators born after July 1, 1972, successfully complete this course.

The program fee is $10. Advance registration in person is required.
