A young girl walking with her parents and a 21-year-old man were both struck by gunfire moments before 11 o'clock last night in the 2700 block of Pennsylvania Ave in West Baltimore, city police said.

Jacquette Bianca Dennis, 4, who lives in the 900 block of Druid Park Lake Drive, was shot in the head and was listed in critical but stable condition this morning at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The other victim, identified by police as Ronald Alexander of the 300 block of South Dallas Court, received a bullet wound to the thigh and was listed in fair condition this morning at Sinai Hospital.

A police spokeswoman said Jacquette was struck as she walked with her parents in front of Earl Frisby's Old Grandad Social Club at 2710 Pennsylvania Ave. The spokeswoman said Mr. Alexander was in front of the Penn Station North Liquor Store at 2714 Pennsylvania Ave. when he was struck.

Police were interviewing several witnesses this morning, but said they had no suspects and no motive.

They said the girl was not an intended target, but they were still attempting to learn why Mr. Alexander was shot. Authorities said no weapon was recovered and the caliber was not immediately known.
