Two men arrested in bar incident

August 24, 1994

County police have arrested two brothers from West Virginia who allegedly used a knife and handgun to threaten patrons of Bella's Lounge Friday night, officials said.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., a barmaid at the lounge in the 1000 block of Cape Saint Claire Road asked a man for proof that he was of legal drinking age. When the man could not show any identification, she asked him to leave, police said.

According to witnesses, that man and another man started to leave the bar in a boisterous and disorderly manner. One of the men threatened to hit the barmaid, and pulled a pocket knife on a bar patron who had asked him to leave, police said.

That man left, and returned with a large silver handgun, police said. He pointed the gun at one patron, then at the crowd, all the while yelling that they had made a big mistake, police said.

William Matthew Holland, 20, and Sherman Holland, 23, of Fort Gay, W.Va., were arrested at the Days Inn on Route 50 and charged with assault, police said. Officers also found a loaded, .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun in their room, police said.
