Farmer killed when tractor runs over him

August 23, 1994

A Taneytown farmer was killed Saturday after he fell off his tractor, state police said.

Robert Bryan Abel Jr., 35, of the 2500 block of Bear Run Road was not found until about 9 a.m. Sunday when his wife went looking for him and found him lying in a field near his tractor.

Police said she last saw him about 11 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators said the victim was apparently driving the tractor on an unimproved dirt access road to a field and struck a log, causing him to be thrown from the tractor. Police said the tractor then ran over Mr. Abel.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, officers said.
